For many years after high school (thankfully), clear skin evaded me. I tried every product on the market, went onto the benzoyl peroxide treatment and desperately combed through forums for a magic cream or ointment to restore my once healthy and crystal clear skin. Unfortunately, all I was sold was snake oil in the form of products that claimed to be life-changing.

I’ve come to realize that the beauty industry, especially skin care, is a multi billion dollar industry that focuses more on profit margins rather than being sincerely helpful.

By no means am I shitting on them, I completely understand that it’s a business and people have to make money. But, I felt tired of the fake promises with tiny disclaimers posted on the back of products that I desperately wanted to work.

It took a couple of years for me to clear my skin and restore it (mostly) to its glory days. There was no secret products or cream in my regimen, everything I actually used was natural and from the earth. In today’s post, I’m going to highlight the 5 best natural remedies for flawless skin that is free of marks and scars caused by conditions like acne, eczema, psoriasis and so on.

1. Honey Masks For Softer And Even Skin

Honey is already popularly known for having incredible moisturizing properties as well as antimicrobial effects on our skin.

When raw unfiltered honey (especially Manuka honey) is applied for a period of 15 – 20 minutes a day, it tends to be a very light and effective remedy for conditions like dry rough skin as well as acne. I’ve been using honey for about 4 years now and it has been a contributing factor in how I healed both acne and acne scars.

It’s gentle, natural, effective and superbly frugal.

2. Lemon Juice For Fading Red Marks

Lemon juice is by far my favorite natural skincare remedy because of how fast it works and how awesome the results are. If you’ve suffered from acne at any point in your life, you know the battle that takes place to fade those post inflammatory hyper pigmentation marks.

They’re red and unsightly. Lemon juice is a natural bleaching agent that is rich in Vitamin C which means that it not only reduces the appearance of marks and spots but it provides a boost of collagen and elasticity to your skin. Oh, let’s not forget that it’s an effective acidic cleaning remedy which can be a bit drying so my advice would be to combine honey and lemon into a healing and moisturizing mask.

Apply lemon juice only at night because you don’t want to expose your skin to the sun just after a lemon juice treatment as it can possibly be damaging.

Known as the plant of immortality, Aloe Vera has a been a natural healing remedy for centuries and with good reason.

This succulent consists of about 75 biologically active compounds and many of those compounds contain cooling and healing properties.

With that being said, aloe vera is fantastic for cooling inflamed skin (say goodbye to those red hot pimples) and I try to make my own aloe vera gel from the plants in our garden. You can pick up a bottle of this awesome Aloe Vera Gel to get rid of those marks.

4. Bentonite Clay For Extracting Toxins

Scroll through our archives and you’ll find a number of skincare posts where bentonite clay seems to be a common feature and for a good reason.

This volcanic ash acts as a magnet for toxins and is a wonderful way to remove dirt, impurities and toxins from your skin (bentonite clay is just damn awesome). A bottle of this stuff is relatively cheap and it lasts for a long time. Mix with water and essential oils and apply this mask to your face.

It dries up really well and within 15 minutes or so you can simply wash it off. It can also be a tad bit drying so make sure to slap on some honey thereafter for 5 minutes and wash out.

Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay

Regarded as the best clay product on the market, Aztec’s secret indian healing clay has been a bestseller for years now with over 12 thousand positive reviews on Amazon! This is by far the most effective skin and hair clay mask on the net that doesn’t cost more than a few bucks.

5. Rose Water For Soothing Inflammations

Extracted from Rose flowers, this awesome water is jam packed with anti-inflammatory properties that are extremely soothing and cooling.

Back in the day when I suffered from a particularly horrific bout of cystic acne, rose water played a pivotal role in reducing the severity of that breakout and it cleared out in half the time it ordinarily would. Head over to your local health store, pick up a bottle of therapeutic grade or grade A rose water and apply it to your skin at least 2 – 3 times a week for no more than 15 to 20 minutes at a time.

Be careful though, like most things, some people do have reactions to these natural remedies so it’s best to test on a single patch of skin first. But, don’t be alarmed if your skin appears slightly (very slightly) red after using red water unless it seems out of the ordinary. My skin would be slightly red for about 5 minutes after use and then return back to normal.
